Dry Needling In Success

A patient receiving dry needling therapy. Many people, medical personnel included, believe acupuncture and dry needling are the same. Although they both use the same needles, the two therapies have separate techniques and are based on different philosophies.

We use these needles to stimulate a response in muscle and tendons that are tight, inflamed or injured and this can help to improve the function and mobility of the affected area.

What to Expect

Also known as intramuscular stimulation, dry needling is an all-natural, holistic therapy that provides pain relief. By placing extremely fine needles at trigger points in the muscle or affected tissue—which are generally hard or knotted—the needle stimulate a twitch response within the muscle that can reduce pain and spasm. Sometimes, we’ll expand the therapy to include the area around the trigger point for better results.

This technique is especially useful in addressing sports injuries and during rehab. Due to its focus on muscles and the surrounding tissue, it provides much-needed pain relief for our patients. It has also shown promise in managing osteoarthritis.

As part of our holistic approach to care, we use dry needling in combination with chiropractic adjustments to address the ways the joints are moving. The amount of insertion time depends on the condition being addressed. By removing muscle tension, joints move freely, reducing pain and allowing the body to heal.

A Variety of Conditions

Dry needling has had success with conditions like:

  • Joint problems
  • Disc issues
  • Tendinitis
  • Migraines
  • TMJ
  • Whiplash
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Pelvic pain
  • And more

Depending on the depth of the needle insertion, there may be some soreness or bruising at the insertion site.
